Thanks, thanks and thanks Dugi! I really love this kind of video where you talk about strategies and give suggestions, it’s great!
Excited about the new Gold Academy, meanwhile I thank you for this first video and I will go try it as soon as possible!
Dude Awesome Guide Dugi I cant wait I know i’ll be getting this one for sure
what a great idea thank you
can’t wait 4 days
Dugi how much this?
Hmmm… Thanks for the awesome tip on the Potion of treasure finding. Gonna have to start using it; does it work on anything you kill in the world?
@Joe Lio, it is displayed in the tooltip, only in 80-85 Cataclysm zones such as Mount Hyjal, Vashj’ir, Deepholm, Uldum and Twilight Highlands.
@Dugi, you can do tol barad to
I’m doing the dailies not for the gold but for the equipment at the end but I need a way to gather enough gold during the time I have where I’m not doing dailies, instances for valor, and raiding. And of course that thing talked about some and experienced by few WoW players; A REAL LIFE!
I have a wife, kids, dogs, job and a house all of which claim my time before I sit down to play. I guess that qualifies me as a casual player. I call anyone with another priority list obsessed.
I don’t have the time to experiment with my build and my rotations to get my DPS high enough to satisfy some other players. So I’m like the fat kid in gym class the last picked for raids. I depend on guide Dugi’s guide to use my playing time efficiently. For me a gold guide will be very helpful.
I am also hooked on achievements so any extra gold can go to those expensive mounts and pets.
I am still looking around the net for a character build guide that is as clear, easy to use, and that are not too expensive. A guide for a single class that costs more than two months subscription is beyond my budget.
Great post…nice to know that I am not the only fat kid in gym class (love the metaphor). I get a little annoyed at the WOW Jock big shots, that snipe at those of us that have too much real life to have tier 600 max mayhem tank or DPS deadly gear.
Thanks for a little perspective. I really hope a few of the random group rude raiders I have had to deal with, read your wise words, and grow some manners.
Well done. The guide on the Treasure finding potion is exactly on target. One hour of focus pays off big.
Friday is the 25th? not the 24th
@Err?, I am in the UK and it is Friday for me just check iCal
@Err?, lol Yes indeed Err, you are a day younger than you think, Friday IS 24th
Thanks Dugi, looking forward to seeing the next one
Thanks Dugi! Looks like another fantastic guide!!
The first location shown are groups of 9 lvl 84 and an 85 Elite. You aggro the 85 if you’re anywhere close. Guess the video didn’t show the pocket healer in the background.
So I go for the easier route in Helmsdeep where there are groups of 3 to 6 lvl 83s but be careful of which mobs as the ones below running out don’t drop loot. After killing about 50 that do I don’t have a single chest just a bit of cloth and 8 or 9 gold minus repairs.
Granted, I only spent about 20 min actually farming but if this is the teaser video I don’t want the rest.
@Kirk, I’m sorry Kirk there are no pocket healer, the level 85 elite is actually a good thing as they worth more than regular NPC. You need to stick with it for the whole hour, killing 50 in 20 minutes is also not enough, as I can kill 50 NPC I think in 5 mins, you need to push yourself much harder and the treasure will come.
@Kirk, Dugi specifically stated that lower level mobs have a much less chance of dropping the chests.
Also, if you didn’t spend the full hour farming, you might have sold yourself out on a lot chests. In my experience of treasure chest farming, I’ve found that the drops tend to be bursty, dropping a whole bunch within minutes and then not seeing one for 10-15+.
Also, have you conisdered CC’ing the elite? Most classes have some sort of crowd control, and you could take it out after you finish the 84s.
Instead of Flaming Dugi for sharing a very viable farming method, ask yourself if it might be something on your end. Am I specced properly? Glyphed? Do I know how to aoe effectively as my class? Am I using survivability CDs? Any level 85 geared in HOT heroic gear will easily be able to farm these mobs.
@Deepfriar, Its ok to question it , sometime you can go for an unluckly streak for the first 20 mins or so but by the end of the hour it will come. I can also prove it perhaps with an uncut full hour video in the future with different classes and our Tiny Treasure contest tommorow will settle the myth that it doesn’t work once and for all.
Thanks Dugi & Team
As usual, you deliver high quality stuff! I am looking forward to this new Gold Academy! I use all your guides and they help me more than I can say!
Excellent work! Thanks again!
I love your voice, dugi. So relaxing and great ideas .
Unfortunately, my rogue has limited AOE. I am doing nowhere near 50 mobs in 5 minutes. As a result, after an hour, I had 18 chests. That came out to about 65 gold, plus about 140 cloth, a stack of ore, and some other odds and ends. The boxes average about 3.6 gold each. I am pretty well geared, so the mobs are going down pretty quick. I am finding it a little hard to believe that it is possible to do 1800g/hour with this. BTW, this was done on the troggs in DH. Personally, I see a lot better return with prospecting/transmuting. Just sayin’.
Ant just for the record, I do use your leveling and daily guides, and they are awesome… as is the support. So far though, I have seen nobody actually offer a real gold making guide that lives up to the promise. I hope this will be different.
@Steve Schafer, 18 chest is a good start lets break this down
I’m certain you would have picked up
at least 100g worth of coins directly from the NPC 64 gold from the chest 7 stack of cloth x 75g each (worldwide mean value) = 525g 1 stack of ore 90g (worldwide mean value
and an educated guess (and very conservative figure) you would get about 8 green disenchantable valued at 25g each = 200g some grey junks total worth about 40g some volatiles aswell worth of about 100g
already you’re at 1119g for your first time and I’m certain you can improve by double as you get better at farming and better gear. Every class have competitive AOE abilities that can match all other classes so being a Rogue will not limit you.
@Dugi, Thanks for the reply. I will have to keep a closer watch going forward. I will try another run on my rogue in DH, and maybe try the schnotts guys on my pally. Both are similarly geared, and I will pay closer attention to the amount of gold looted, etc.
In answer to one of the things you said in your response… The best AOE I have is to poison my throwing knife, and pop AR with FoK. This will take most of the mobs down before AR expires. For the next group, I need to cleave with BF, since AR is still on CD. I switch back and forth between those. If I am missing something, please let me know. The rotation for FoK is:
FoK FoK FoK AR spam FoK until mobs are dead.
Wound poison on throwing, DP and IP on MH and OH respectively. Also, you can see my gliphs, chants, gems in the armory (I really need some new shoulders lol):
Also, I am kind of stuck with the troggs at Fractured Front, since rogue survivability is tough with multiple mobs. Much easier when the defenders tank for you. They are, however, level 82 mobs, so I understand the drop rate may be lower.
Tried the DH Troggs with my Mage. I can’t do 50 in 5 minutes either; about 25. Still only got three chests. I mow down 85 elites in my nightgown, so I’ll keep trying. Still got out of it with enough embersilk to finish my first aid…could have sold it for about 150g.
Still, there is a learning curve for any new tool. If your gold coaching is as good as your leveling guides, I am looking forward to the process.
Thanks Dugi, awesome guide, jst finish watchin vid and im off 2 farm me some gold!!!
just spent over 2 hours @ Dragonmaw pass killing mobs, good respawn rate but i have to admit the potion of treasure finding, waste of time. got 1 chest and loads of scrap embersilk.
may as well have thrown the potions at the mobs.
or maybe i am not playing the same game as everyone else:p
@steve, I don’t think the NPC over at Dragonmaw pass drops anything, you can’t farm there.
A couple issues with this series so far. It’s being marketed as a method for the casual player to make gold fast. Yet when casual players report that they can’t make the gold as fast as described, they are told to up there ability. So that’s not casual any more. Most casual players aren’t geared to the max, aren’t enchanted very well, aren’t gem’d very well. And most casual players aren’t very efficient with there damage rotations. QED most casual players can’t achieve 50 level-85 kills in 5 min.
Now for the mythical 1800g per hour. Quite frankly, Dugi is not making that much gold per hour. The video indicates that he farms 30 – 40 chests that have 4 – 8 gold. Let’s take the average of 4 – 8 which is 6. His 30 – 40 chests yield him 180 – 240 gold. The rest he has to get from selling the other stuff that dropped. Which he can’t do instantly. It will take many hours to sell all that stuff. Maybe even a few days.
This is a great tip and a good technique to add to your gold making arsenal. But don’t expect to make 2000g an hour doing this. You may acquire 2000g worth of stuff in a hour. But converting it to gold takes much more time.
@Jeff Struven, Hi Jeff, you’re right that I didn’t make 1800g.
I actually made over 2500g from the video example which I received 30 chest and I believe I can reach the 3000g/h mark doing this and I can prove it.
In the video example in my backpack you can see that my gold went from 300g to 500g by the end of the run and 694g after opening all the chest. So I received 394g of instant gold.
15 stack of cloth x 75g (worldwide mean value) = 1125g 16 disechantables x 25g = 400g 1 lock box (level 85 lock boxes contains around 35g + 1 disenchantable (25g) = 60g 19 Elementium Ores x 4.5g = 85g 13 Pyrite Ores x 7g = 91g 15 Volatile Air x 15g = 225g 4 Volatile Fire x 5.8g = 23g 5 Volatile Life x 6.3g = 31g
all added up to 2434g using the worldwide mean value (the items worth more on my server)
Whether you believe I legitimately earn this much is up to you and how long an item will take to sell will also depend on the players.
Do you want to sell it at market value ? or the undercut value?
If you sell at undercut value you will sell everything within a couple of hours but at a cheaper rate.
This just one gold making method and people need to see the best potential.
@Dugi, (This is Jeff) Oh I totally believe that you farmed 2000g – 3000g worth of stuff in an hour. But you can’t buy gear or gems or mounts with stuff. You have to convert it to gold first. At the end of the hour you had 394g not 3000g. Even undercutting you won’t sell all the stuff in a couple hours. There may be one or two servers where that’s possible – generally no. Some stuff will set immediately. Some may sit for days without selling. So just because you have 3000g worth of inventory doesn’t mean you made 3000g in a hour.
Here’s the problem with these gold making guides, they always entice with peak hourly gold making rate. I think a much better metric would be your weekly net accumulation. Because the sales/hour varies wildly across the day and from day to day. Show me your inventory bag on Sunday at 9:00 AM realm time. Then show me your inventory bag a week later at the same time. That tells me how good your gold making is.
Now that I’ve thrown water on the fire, let me also say that I’m very happy with Dugi’s in game guides and if the gold making guides are half as good they will still be beneficial.
@blitzkrieg, It is true that things take time to sell… especially armor. Mats usually go pretty fast though. Even if it takes a while to sell the stuff, you have to look at the time it took to make the effort necessary to get the items to sell. With just about any auction addon, it takes a maximum of 10 minutes to DE, post, collect, repost things that do not sell, etc. If something takes 24 hours to sell, vs 5 minutes, the effort is that same (unless you are wasting your time, sitting at the ah, waiting for things to sell.
For instance… Let’s say that I mine a bunch of ore. It takes me 1 hour. I prospect them for a 2 Inferno Rubies, and 9 Carnelians. I send the carnelians to my alchemist, and transmute them into Rubies. I proc 1 extra, send them back to my JC, cut them and sell the cut stones at ah for 300g each (net, after ah cut).
Total earned – 1800g-27g (for heartblossom) = 1773 Total time prospecting, transmuting, cutting and posting – 1hr 15m
Whether I sell them all in an hour or 2 days, would you argue that I earned less than 1418.4g/hr?
Obviously, the results are not always the same, and I did not even account for the other gems I got that will also sell, but I think you get the point of my question. There is no way to “gather” 1800g/hr+ in just currency. What counts is the amount of effort put into the venture, and the amount of gold that is returned from it. The amount of gold made weekly (as you suggest) has nothing to do with how effective a gold making strategy is, and everything to do with how much of one’s play time they dedicate to gold farming.
Should have read “Total time mining, prospecting, transmuting, cutting and posting – 1hr 15m”
Can’t wait for these. I have every single guide that Dugi has to offer, and am always impressed with how well done and easy to use they are. I am looking forward to being able to make a decent in game living XD.
Dugi are you going to let your subs have a chance to buy this before the 24th
thx so much i trust that u guys can make this game more fun then it is now this is great thx
THX SO MUCH I TRUST THAT U GUYS WOULD MAKE THIS EVEN BETTER THEN WHAT IT IS RIGHT NOW ITS THAT MUCH BETTER FOR EVERYONE THAT LOVES THIS GAME U GUYS R # 1 WHEN IT COMES TO WOW FANS THX SO MUCH
Thanks for the video on TTC, I never realized what it was for. (I have an Alchemist that is maxed). I know, shame on me lol. This will be a fun way to make some extra gold. For all those who are grumping that they tried ONCE and cant get the results that Dugi did… I bet if you try it for a few weeks your results will improve. There is always a learning curve with everything new. The more you practice, the better you get. Consider it DPS practice with the fringe benefit of making gold. I know I am going to try it. I wasn’t going to purchase this guide… but I think I just changed my mind, so Thanks Dugi
I was just looking in my servers AH (Saurfang) and there are no Potions of Treasure Finding What do I do!?
@Nicholas, Try to find an alchemist in either guild chat or trade chat and provide him with mats + a tip to craft some. Best if you can find a potion master for the chance of extra potions.
@Nicholas, Materials you need: 8 Cinderbloom, 6 Heartblossom, 4 Stormvine, 4 Whiptail, 1 Crystal Vial. Buy the Crystal Vial from an Alchemy vendor instead of the AH. You’ll save a lot of coin.
@Steve Schafer, How can you say the amount of gold per week has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the strategy? That’s like saying a foot race has nothing to do with how fast you run and everything to do with how far you run – in fact, both matter. I was assuming the original premise of the video which is casual play. I think the gold strategy should be measured in “spendable” gold per hour and not wealth acquired. Here’s a test for your strategy: you need a pair of VP bracers selling for about 2.5Kg to 3.5Kg in order to get your item level high enough to raid with your guild. How fast will your gold strategy get you raiding?
>you need a pair of VP bracers selling for about 2.5Kg to 3.5Kg in order to get your item level high enough to raid with your guild. How fast will your gold strategy get you raiding?
2-3 hours of farming and 1-2 days of waiting for the items to sell.
Total played time is 2-3 hours Total time until spendable gold 1-2days.
@blitzkrieg, Like I said, it has EVERYTHING to do with how much time you actually spend farming for gold. How can you not understand that? You can have a terrible strat and use it 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, and make more gold in a week than someone who has an awesome strat that makes them 2k gold an hour, but only uses it a couple of hours a week. I want to see what doing an hour of farming makes, so I can make the most efficient use of my time. The gold comes from looting. Whether that be from looting the currency itself, or items that can be quickly turned around (like mats).
say.s u need potion ot treasure finding before you can find treasure chest, Been trying to obtain one (all day) none on A/H and Alchemist will need matts
great videos Dugi…thank u
Maybe it is just a luck thing, but after 1 hour of farming on my paly, I got only 20 chests. The particulars…
Prot spec 380il Auto loot on The steps with the Schnotts infantry at Maker’s Ascent (10 lvl 80 mobs per group) 23008.8 overall dps (according to recount) 39347896 total damage/60 minutes = 655798 points of damage per minute during farming time. 81246 average health pool (9 at 64496 and 1 elite at 232k per group) = 8 mobs down per minute over the course of 1 hour.
My question is as follows:
How in the blazes do you get 30-40 chests per hour on only 2 mobs per minute more? Does my luck just suck?
On a side note, this is probably the best method for farming embersilk that I have seen yet. My tailor makes pretty good coin on the bags. 128 embersilk before opening the chests, and 226 after opening the chests. Taking into account all of the loot, gold, etc., I pulled in about 1500 gold. Not bad. I really would love to hit the 30 chests mark though. Maybe I will try it with raid buffs next time…
@Steve Schafer, if you check out the contest page, several people already submitted screenshots of over 30 TTC /hour. The highest so far is 43.
So it is possible
Try Verlok stand in Deepholm which I think could be the best spot.
@Dugi, Wow! Yea, I guess it must be my luck. lol Verlock stand is where I did 18. I am not saying it isn’t possible. I am sure it is. Even my trinks don’t proc. lol
This does not help me I do not have 525 profession’s so I should not buy this thank’s alot Dugi
@badd79ass, Why would you not have maxed profs? It is not that hard. It just takes time. Unless you want to play day trader at the AH, having maxed profs are just about the only way to make a decent amount of gold. On my toons, I have mining, herbs, chanting, inscription, JC, BS, tailoring, and alchemy all 525. Crafting profs can be maxed at level 75.

This is my post… cool man!
@bozer, it is man!
